The Verdict

Reminiscent of a 70s style bar, Gum is Collingwood’s latest boozy haunt. Located on Johnson Street, the ‘tiny bar’ is a considered mix of eatery, pub and good times.

Naturally, there’s an extensive range of beers, wine and cocktails, and they’re evening serving pies from Footscray’s Pie Thief, in addition to the iconic vanilla slice. Cocktail highlights include a very 70s Banana Cream Daiquiri and The Aperoyal—a reinterpretation of the classic Spritz.

Owners—and best mates—Chris Wright and Jonathan Reisacher are the team behind Gum, who’ve called on local interior designer Bianca Sciuto to dial up that 70s aesthetic. And like any watering hole hoping to make a name for itself in Melbourne’s hospitality scene, they’ve made sure to include a beer garden.

Chris and Jonathan come from a music background, having owned a recording studio and label, so it’s no surprise that the level of playlist curation will appease even the most discerning northsiders. Expect local DJs playing from Thursday to Saturday every week.
