Como Lane might be the most South Yarra opening South Yarra has seen in a good long time.
Oozing European class, the 60-seater indoor outdoor cafe sits flush with Como House, an historic mansion owned by the National Trust, dating back to 1847. At the helm is legendary chef and restaurateur Scott Pickett who also has Estelle, Smith St Bistrot, Chancery Lane, Matilda and Longrain in his stable.
Offerings span grab and go to a proper sit down meal from brunch to lunch. Expect buttermilk pancakes with stone fruit, whipped creme fraiche and lemon myrtle, chilli scrambled eggs with Longrain’s signature XO sauce, a classic take on shakshuka and breaky bowls filled with salmon, pickles, seasonal greens and veg.
The lunch fare is heftier, with sangas with a very French twist like roast chicken, lettuce and tarragon mayonnaise, croque monsieurs, scaling up to market fish, schnitties, burgers and quiche. Wash it all down with coffee from Merchant Coffee Roaster and cold pressed juices from Market Juice.
The cafe itself is a former garden shed, and is split between a cosy indoor setting and an expansive alfresco dining space, with its pristine interior tying perfectly the inside with the outside. We’re loving the expansive tiled green counter, rattan chairs and marble tables, tres chic.
