Melbourne’s Hottest New Winery In The CBD Is Hiding A Cheese Room & Oyster Bar

By

Melbourne’s affair with wine is about to get a transformation. Melbourne Winery, housed in the historic Ross House on Flinders Lane, is where traditional artisanship meets metropolitan elegance.

Guests can blend their own wines in the wine lab, try their hand (or feet) at grape stomping or settle in for curated pairings at the oyster bar and/or cheese room.

Here, charcuterie play backup to the star of the show: the wine. The crisp grapes are sourced from across Victoria’s premier wine regions, namely Bellarine and Mornington, and produced by chief winemaker Robin Brockett.

Luxuriate in 5000 square-feet of jade-green walls against yellow checkered floors, an explosion of multicoloured wine labels splashed across the space like living wallpaper and diners nestled under hanging shrubbery and repurposed wine casks. At the heart of it all? A gleaming marble-open kitchen where chefs craft Modern Australian dishes designed to make every sip sing.

"Wine isn’t just about taste—it’s about the atmosphere, the stories it carries and the full sensory journey it inspires” Melbourne Winery general manager  Paul Bellette explains.

Partnering with Scotchmans Hill, one of Australia’s most respected winemakers, Melbourne Winery ensures each of its 32 wines are sublime (hurray for $9 Sauvignon Blanc!). “We’re creating a space where people don’t just drink wine, they engage with it," is the team's motto, which we're here for.

Opening in April 2025, this is your cue to embrace your inner sommelier—without leaving the CBD. “We’re showing what a winery looks like when it’s born and bred in Melbourne,” Bellette says.

It might be time to consider that Yarra Valley day trip officially cancelled
