Winter just got cheesier. From 15 May to 22 June 2025, Fed Square will transform into a snow-dusted French alpine village for Fondue Chalet—the city’s most indulgent winter pop-up from the team behind Melbourne’s cult-favourite Raclette Igloo.
Step into one of 18 private wooden chalets (imported from France, bien sûr) where you and your mates will sup mulled wine, tear off chunks of crusty baguette and dunk it into golden, molten cheese, which has been carefully selected by cheesemongers for the ultimate experience. Laugh as you pass plates of charcuterie around the table, pinching an extra cornichon before it gets too far out of reach.
When you've had your fill of cheese—whenever that might be, you'll have to pry us out of there—the experience kicks on at the après-ski inspired bar. Throw back some French winter cocktails like spiced pear martinis or traditional digestifs while soaking up the alpine atmosphere complete with twinkling lights and the sound of French chansons (that's songs for the uninitiated).
The brains behind this winter wonderland is BBR Group Australia, who know a thing or two about creating memorable dining experiences. "After seeing how Melbourne embraced our Raclette Igloo, we wanted to take it further," says founder Vincent Hernandez. "Fondue Chalet brings that same warmth and conviviality, but with even more authenticity—from the imported chalets to the traditional recipes."
Running for just six weeks, Fondue Chalet offers 90-minute sessions in chalets that seat from six to eight, making it perfect for everything from date nights to group celebrations. Prices start at $99 per person including fondue, sides and that all-important first mulled wine, with cheese-and-chocolate combo tickets available for those who want the whole shebang.
