If you don’t like eggs or egg sandwiches it’s probably time for you to turn away. Introducing Eggholic; as the name would suggest they specialise in egg-based sangas—which they do bloody well.
Opening up through one of Melbourne’s earlier lockdown periods the store amassed quite the cult following, with devoted egg sambo fans lining out the door. Now with two locations in Clayton, and Box Hill, the Korean-style diner is rolling out a further two stores with the CBD and Glen Waverly opening in early 2022.
The offering here is based on the Koren-style thick-cut brioche sandwiches which are all the rage across the pond. Eggholic has launched a menu filled with tasty K-style options—from your classic ‘Bacon & Egg’, a garlic-toasted brioche with bacon cheddar cheese and scrambled egg, to the ‘Smashed Avo Boom’, a homage to Aussie brunch culture.
The perfectly fluffy and flavoured brioche bread is baked in-house daily—which you can even pick up by the loaf. As well as sangas, Eggholic also serves a variety of Korean street food. Expect delicacies such as Topokki (a fried rice cake) as well as Seoul hotdogs, a Korean corndog-style pork sausage.
