Secondipity Roasters

88 Langridge Street, Collingwood

This one is for the coffee lovers, especially the iced coffee lovers. Nestled amongst the Collingwood warehouse offices is Secondipity Roasters, a Korean-style micro roastery and bakery. Their super ‘Grammable house-made brews and salted cream buns have quickly gained them a massive following, especially among hungry workers. Step inside, and you’re immediately part of the action: dough being kneaded to your left, cold brew poured to your right, and an industrial roasting set up tucked in the corner. Even remnants of graffiti on the ceiling add that little bit of northside oomph to the space.

This carefully curated warehouse space is home to two phenomenons: a stacked menu of breakfast options and the ultra-refined plant and homewares store. Cibi is an aesthetic-filled pleasure, with white-washed walls, plants all around, and Japanese-fused dishes like Miso-baked eggs that go down a treat. It’s been around long before Harry Styles frequented, but it's certainly one of the best cafes in Collingwood.

Alimentari’s Collingwood Kitchen is by far one of the best cafes on Smith Street, with customers traveling across town for the delicious eats and treats. If there’s a line out the door when you arrive, don’t be afraid—it moves quickly. Burnside

Tucked into a tiny spot on the corner of Smith and Gertrude Street, Burnside Coffee is holding its own against Fitzroy and Collingwood heavy hitters. You can decide to either grab-and-go when the doors swing open at the crack of dawn (6:30am) or snag a stool outside to soak up some rays for your morning routine. The crew decided to ditch the laundry list of typical Melbourne coffee orders, so you can only order your brew in one of three ways: with milk, black, or as a punchy espresso. Be sure to grab a bite to eat, be it a buttery croissant or bread-bursting sandwich.

Known for its longstanding dominance of Collingwood’s coffee scene alongside their sister store Aunty Peg’s on Wellington Street, Proud Mary is a staple cafe. They took over the historic Foy and Gibson boiler room and transformed it into a spot where quality coffee is guaranteed. Their menu has a rotating selection of favourites including ricotta hotcakes and their sesame prawn toast with sambal eggs.

South Of Johnston

46 Oxford Street, Collingwood

Serving all-day breakfast (we love), this rustic Collingwood cafe keeps our bellies full and hearts content. They add their own modern twist to the classics—think French toast with rhubarb, smashed peas with ricotta on toast, and grilled semolina with roasted mushies. Don’t worry if you’re not a breakfast person. Italian-inspired lunches are paired perfectly with South of Johnston’s Pimms cup or Espresso Martini. Their refreshing cocktails will have you smacking your lips with pleasure.

Plug Nickel

7 Peele Street, Collingwood

Part cafe, and now part bar—our favourite kind of hybrid venue. Plug Nickel is the small corner spot on Peele Street, best known for its ultra-smooth cold brews that’s been rotating on the reg for over a decade. The food menu is concise with only five dishes on the pass, each packing a delightful punch. Our favourite might have to be the spicy tuna melt, but the falafel roti-wrap is a strong contender.

Allpress

80 Rupert Street, Collingwood

One of the OG coffee roasters in Melbourne, Allpress Espresso doubles as one of the best coffee spots in the city, let alone a killer cafe in Collingwood. Rather hidden on Rupert Street, Allpress boasts a huge outdoor dining space before you pass through and into the warehouse cafe. The food offering is fresh and simple, like a breakfast platter with a boiled egg, avocado, tomato and provolone.

Collingwood is home to STREAT’s flagship cafe on Cromwell Street, housed in a 150yo heritage site. Pouring their own ethically-sourced coffee, the menu covers all bases: all-day breakfast, baked goods, and decent lunch options.

Proud Mary Coffee Roasters are pretty proud (sorry, couldn’t resist) to bring you an equally excellent cafe in Collingwood, Aunty Peg’s. There’s a lot happening in this space, operating as a cafe, specialty coffee bar, bakery, roasting house and training space. Looking more like an art gallery than a cafe, ACOFFEE is one of the most spectacular spaces to enjoy a brew in. Nestled just off Smith Street, the lengthy converted warehouse has a roaster on-site and offers a range of their roasts and blends alongside a select range of pastries and doughnuts.

Hifi

Not strictly a cafe, but this hole-in-the-wall spot from the crew behind Terror Twilight deserves an honourable mention. Hifi know a thing or two about what makes a good sandwich, and the long lines they’ve maintained over the year since opening is a strong indicator. From fresh to toasted sandos, you'd be silly to skip past that hefty mushroom taleggio number, or their fancy take on a fillet-o-fish.
