There’s something new coming to this year’s Melbourne Food and Wine Festival (MFWF) and it’s celebrating all things fast, easy and delicious. If you dream of visiting New York for its bodegas or can’t go past a cheeky lunchtime sandwich when you’re out and about, this one’s for you.
7-Eleven has teamed up with some of Melbourne’s most-loved chefs to bring you The Convenient Store. As part of the MFWF, the pop-up shop will showcase a number of new offerings from 7-Eleven’s elevated deli experience, Johnny’s Deli. Crafted in collaboration with some of Melbourne’s top chefs, including Shannon Martinez and Victor Liong, the menu boasts bespoke bites as you’ve never experienced before.
First on the menu is The Victor, specially crafted by Liong, the head chef and founder of Lee Ho Fook, one of Melbourne’s top fine-dining Chinese restaurants. The Victor pairs a succulent and spicy pulled lamb with a delightfully crispy chilli salsa for the ultimate Asian-inspired sandwich.
Next, there’s The Shannon, a vegan schnitzel sandwich smothered in sundried tomatoes and perfectly wilted kale, created by Martinez, founder of the popular plant-based restaurant, Smith & Daughter.
Joining the star-studded sandwich line-up are Johnny’s Deli classics Brekky Tortilla wrap, filled with Mexican-inspired eggs and smoky chorizo, and Johnny's Reuben, which boasts a classic pastrami, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese combo between layers of pillowy ciabatta.
Not only will you be spoilt for choice when it comes to the sandwich selection, but 7-Eleven has also worked closely with Footscray's Pie Thief to bring you their new creation—the Reuben Pie. They’ve also created the Ultimate 7-Eleven Sandwich Spread with Tom Sarafian, the renowned chef behind the dip empire, Sarafian. Sarafian’s hummus takes three days to make and took years to perfect, so you know this spread is going to be some serious stuff.
It’s hard to believe but the collabs don’t stop there. If you’re after something sweet, look no further than the 7-Eleven banana bread ice cream by Luther’s Scoops, or Miss Trixie’s ultimate cookie with 7-Eleven chocolate-coated lollies baked throughout the dough. You can also try out a new 7-Eleven Coffee Ice Magic that’s been developed by gelato giants Piccolina.
All of these sweet and savoury treats will be available at The Convenient Store, which will be open daily from 8am to 8pm from 24 March to 2 April at Federation Square as part of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival.
If you can’t make it to the festival, don't stress, you still have the chance to grab yourself a Victor or Shannon sandwich at one of 7-Eleven’s Johnny’s Deli stores from Friday, 24 March to Sunday, 30 April 2023. Head over here to find your nearest deli.
