Song Bird is Neil and Sam Perry’s three-storey Cantonese restaurant in Double Bay. The restaurant celebrates Neil’s love for Asian cuisine, his passion for excellent Australian produce, and the significant mid-century architecture of its setting, in the heritage-listed Gaden House.

Neil and head chef Mark Lee's menu has over 70 dishes, with highlights like scallop spring rolls with sweet black vinegar sauce; Peking duck with hoisin sauce, condiments and mandarin pancakes; stir-fried red braised David Blackmore Wagyu with oyster mushrooms and kampot pepper sauce; and steamed coral trout with ginger and shallot.

“Producers are one of the cornerstones of every great restaurant and at Song Bird, we have Spencer Gulf prawns in all the dumplings and prawn toast, Brent’s Wollemi ducks for the Peking duck…brilliant single-line fish from Ben Collison and Anthony Heselwood, as well as Bruce Collis’ superb southern calamari,” says Neil.

Australian wines, lesser-seen varieties and a range of Champagne sit on the 250-bottle wine list. Song Bird’s drinks program also features a diverse range of premium spirits best experienced in one of the Lucky 8 signature cocktails like the Han Old Fashioned with Old Forester rye, Remy Martin, plum liqueur, clarified plum, plum bitters and five spice spray.

The 240-seat venue’s architecture and interior by ACME and Caon Design Office blends the heritage elements of the site (like the imposing, original spiral staircase that greets you on entering) with elements selected to evoke the spice, heat and complexity of Asian cuisine. Marble and granite textures, delicate green and gold details, and a bespoke fluted timber panel system—washed in a deep red stain—balance minimalism and richness.

Each floor of Song Bird is available for private events (30 guests on the ground level, 80 guests on level one, and up to 100 on the level two), and there are two semi-private dining rooms that can accommodate 18 guests each.

Song Bird sits above the Perrys’ cocktail bar Bobbie’s, and in the same precinct as sibling venues Margaret, Next Door and Baker Bleu. For more of Sydney's best restaurants, head here
