Brightly coloured frozen margaritas

We might be rolling into one of the wettest summers on record, but Sydney restaurants are bringing their best to make the indoor action extra good while we weather this  La Niña storm. Like, for example, El Camino Cantina's five-week-long slushie marg festival "Ritapalooza", which is due to make a comeback this month.

El Camino Cantina is Sydney’s veritable home of giant slushie margaritas and Ritapalooza is their annual ode to this sweet, boozy drink. This year, Ritapalooza will feature 24 limited-edition margarita flavours, cheap eats, DJs, live music, and good vibes.

Kicking off on Monday 24 October, alongside El Camino’s signature margaritas (the classic, mango, strawberry and tropical), you’ll be treated to a bout of nostalgia and kidult feels with flavours like HubbaBubba, fairy bread, and a grape flavoured marg sprinkled with Nerds. There's also Wizz Fizz, salted caramel popcorn, Lifesaver, and marshmallow margs on rotation.

Order yours slushie style (frozen) or on the rocks, in a standard or large pour, huge 2-litre Rita towers, or—if you're really (really) thirsty, a 3-litre Rita balloon. If you want to sample the lot, you can order the "Metre Rita", a one-metre tasting paddle of 12, 50ml frozen margs.

As for the cheap eats, on Tuesdays you'll be in for $2 tacos, with new flavours popping up each week. On Wednesdays, it's 10-cent wings, and Thursdays are for half-price fajitas. Go for the “Party Palooza” package ($99 per person) to lock in bottomless slushie margs, and your pick of the wacky flavours mentioned above, as well as three courses of El Camino classics (hello spicy buffalo wings with blue cheese mayo, soft house-made tortillas and sizzling adobo chicken fajitas).
