There are few ways new venues really make a drop-in Sydney’s ocean of cafes but The Rocks’ newest kid on the block is slinging free food like no one’s business.
Black & White Espresso Bar churns out bagels with all the trimmings, breaky rolls stuffed with fried eggs and harissa relish, Reuben sandwiches loaded with more pastrami and sauerkraut than you can imagine, and some of the best damn corn fritters around. While this newbie already has our attention on the breakfast side of things, this cafe has plans to sling free Portuguese tarts tomorrow morning and Espresso Martinis tomorrow evening and our bodies are well and truly ready.
The real stickler is that these aren’t just any old Portuguese tarts—they're from Sydney’s best of the best, Tuga Pastries. If you’re a serious bakery bandit, you’ve most definitely heard the word that Tuga's Pastel de Nata is some of the absolute best in Sydney (the proper Portuguese name for our beloved Portuguese tarts). The recipe for this incredibly creamy tart has been passed down from the father of owner and head baker, Diogo Ferreira; who spent months perfecting this Portuguese treat. Ferreira believes that the ultimate tart is one that combines the best of flakey and silky consistencies.
Black & White Espresso Bar will be giving away 100 Portuguese custard tarts from Tuga Pastries with every coffee order from 7am (as well as 100 Single O Parachute coffee units).
From 5pm, the cafe will kick start those knock-off drinks early with 100 free Mr. Black Espresso Martinis.
