Meet Margot’s, The New Martini Bar And Store Making Gourmet Kick-Ons A Thing

By – who is always dreaming of her next meal and reckons a good martini solves most problems

Out front of Margot's on William St in Northbridge

Margot’s—the slick new bar, deli and bottle shop from the Sesh Mafia crew (behind Shui and Papi Katsu)—is adding another notch to William St’s northern belt. And while its neighbours at Wines Of While and Vincent Wine are all about the vino, Margot’s is the place to go for a good martini.

Gin, vodka, dirty or dry—the dedicated martini menu is a love letter to one of the most popular cocktails of all time. Not a martini fan? Trust us, with Eoin Kenny (one of Perth’s most prolific bartenders) behind it, you soon will be.

His encyclopedic martini knowledge is something else, and he’s poured every inch of that into crafting the best list in town. Apparently they'll be canning the martinis too so you can have a few locked away in your freezer... you know, just for emergencies.

There’s plenty of other tipples too, with a solid European and WA-focussed wine list curated by Sommelier and Venue Manager Caitlin Tormay. Plus, you’ve got Nicola Herbert (ex-Foxtrot Unicorn) leading the crew behind the bar, so rest assured they’ll be able to whip up pretty much whatever you’re in the mood for.

Margot’s is also the only bottle shop in the vicinity open late. And with the accompanying deli stocked full of local charcuterie, cheese and rare nibbly bits sourced from around the globe (hello tinned fish), it's a dangerously convenient spot for fueling your ‘gourmet kick-ons’.

Before rushing home though, let’s just take a minute to appreciate Culinary Director Chase Weber and Head Chef Branagan McGann’s Baltic and Northern European-inspired small plate menu, because my god is it good.

The exact dishes will change up regularly, but you’ll always be able to get plates of freshly sliced charcuterie from Adam Bielawski (CM Meatsmith), outstanding cold and cured seafood, seasonal pickles and other drink-ready snacks.

It's all very good but the smoked cobbler kransky served up with horseradish cream and dill proved to be one of our faves—probably not something I’d rush to order from a first read of the menu either, so take this as your sign to try it. Another standout was the sweet ‘n savoury doughnuts stuffed with a tangy housemade eggplant jam and topped with salted shaved ricotta. An instant classic!

And look, I’ve gotta give a shout out to the olives. Yes, it’s just a bowl of olives, but they might be the plumpest, most flavourful green olives I’ve ever bitten into with a lovely smokey punch to them. A bowl of these with a martini out on the street front parklet—heaven.

Barry Baltinas and Rebecca Frost from award winning design studio Baltinas Architecture are behind the venue's sultry interiors, with a striking palette centred around Pilbara red marble and warm timber tones. There's enough room for 120 people at full capacity, with seating out front, leather-clad booths inside and a large tasting table in the rear wine store and deli, designed with future workshops and tastings in mind.

Located at 434 William St, Margot's is now open from 4pm 'til late on Wednesday and Thursday and from 12pm 'til late Saturday and Sunday. For now it's walk-in only, with bookings available from 8 August onwards.
