Perth’s Best Cakes: From Sweet Slices To Whole Cakes To Order

By Renée Ardon-Coppinger

Best cakes in Perth

We're calling it, Perth's in the midst of a full blown cake boom. A string of dedicated cake shops pumping out slices and whole rounds of iced, cream-filled and chocolate-dusted brilliance have popped up around Perth/Boorloo, and we're one hundred per cent here for it.

Whether you're chasing a birthday cake, wedding cake or just a slice or two to get you through the week, we’ve put together some of our ultimate faves. Here's where to find the best cakes in Perth.

Lady Albatross

East Fremantle

There are few spots sweeter than Lady Albatross. The new cake shop in East Freo is best known for its lush layer cakes, which come in popular flavours like Salted Caramel Carrot Cake, Strawberry Rhubarb Cake With Basil Cream and Lemon Olive Oil. Order cakes online or try your luck with the walk-in options. While you're there, we suggest scoping out the cabinet too—the cupcakes and vanilla slices here are unreal. Oh and don't forget to pick up a Vietnamese iced coffee on your way out—each one is made with beans imported from Vietnam by a local Hamilton Hill supplier.

Aunty Lucy's Cakery

Fremantle

For a big old dose of nostalgic grandma-approved bakes, head to Aunty Lucy's. The charming little cakery comes from Pastry Chef Lucy Cosgriff who you might know as The Well Rested Baker (a Fremantle Farmers Market fave). Their specialties here include classic sponge cakes and pies—kinda like the stuff your nan made but better. The passionfruit sponge is popular for good reason, but you'll find plenty to get stuck into.

Think matcha, pandan coconut or earl grey. Order whole cakes online or head in for a slice.
