The Verdict
Tucked away in the leafy streets of New Farm sits the stunning art deco-inspired Queenslander, Spicers Balfour. Fringed by luscious, perfumed frangipanis, and decked out with incredibly stylish decor, Spicers Balfour is all class.
With a menu full of all our favourites—think soft boiled eggs and toast soldiers, buffalo curd and smoked salmon or next level ‘avo toast’ with quinoa, heritage tomato and pickled shallot—dining here feels like coming home (albeit to a much fancier, cooler home than yours).
In their most recent culinary move, Spicers Balfour have enlisted the help of famed executive chef, Dan Jarrett (who has championed the Asian-style cuisine over at Spicers Tamarind) to create a brand new French-Vietnamese dining element. Expect dishes like Vietnamese beef tartare, fermented tofu and preserved Chinese olive, yolk, and puffed rice paper. Dessert is one of Spicers specialties, and with Vietnamese coffee brulee, lotus tea meringue, and fried cacao truffles with chilli chocolate on the new menu, we think they're nailed it!
A visually stunning menu featuring a line-up of delectable nosh isn’t all this suburban gem has to offer; surprise—there’s also a rooftop bar! Featuring sweeping views across heritage tin roofs of neighboring Queenslander properties and of the Story Bridge, sitting here feels like an oasis where time stands still. With sprawling Bougainvillea and delicious cocktails, there’s really nowhere else we would rather sip our champagne and hang with the locals.
These guys have also mastered the modern day high tea at Spicers Balfour! They do it so well, and it’s available 7 days. If chocolate dipped seasonal fruits, freshly baked lindt choc cookies and pate de fruits sounds delicious, matched with the savoury plate you’re going to be in heaven. You need to get to Spicers Balfour, stat.
Check out the menus tab to really get our taste buds going. The best part? Spicers Balfour uses seasonal menus, so they change with the seasons!
