Paddington has a new Thai spot, and it comes to us from a talented kitchen duo—Bowyo Muangsong, co-owner of Newstead’s Ping Pong and executive chef at Yolk and Morning After, and her brother Yew. Meaning ‘come and taste it’ in Thai, Ma Chim is all about traditional Thai recipes inspired by the pair’s chef mum, dished up in a stylish but relaxed space on Baroona Road.

While Yew is the head chef here, Bowyo’s wealth of experience at some of Brisbane’s most Instagrammed venues is evident in both the sleek, neon-lit decor and the drool-inducing plating up of Ma Chim’s Thai street food dishes. Start with snacks like fried chicken bao, satay skewers and prawn and chicken dim sims, before moving on to heftier grilled and wok-fried dishes and flavoursome curries.

Bowyo’s famed beef cheek massaman curry (if you know, you know) makes an appearance on the lengthy menu, alongside plenty of other Thai faves like pad see ew, tom yum hot pot, duck curry and laab gai—just load up the table and dig in. While you can opt for takeaway, the venue is fully licensed, so dining in patrons can sip their way through a short but sweet cocktail list, or just stick to booze-free sips like Thai lemon iced tea and Thai milk tea with brown sugar pearls.
