You might have heard of 1st Edition, Fortitude Valley’s superhero-themed bar and eatery—the theatrical spot has made a name for itself thanks to its creative cocktails, delicious share plates and of course, the iconic superheroes adorning every inch of the venue. Well, the team behind 1st Edition are intent on creating an entire comic book quarter, with a new cocktail bar behind it in California Lane and another eatery soon to come.

Dubbed Harley Quinn, the tiny cocktail spot isn’t just about anti-heroes, though you’ll find plenty featured on the drinks list. Taking over a narrow space in the laneway with a bar that’s barely a metre long and a pastel-hued indoor seating area, the venue is just the spot for a pre-dinner drink or post-work libation. Though a casual food menu of small bites like cheese plates, pies and toasties is available, here it’s really all about the drinks, with innovative techniques like fat washes, milk punches and infusions making an appearance.

The two Harley Quinn-themed concoctions should be your first sips of course, with the first a blend of Sunset Gin, rose prosecco and lemon fairyfloss, and the second—the Puddin Spritz—featuring grapefruit, vodka, soda, prosecco and rosemary. For the more heroic types there’s options like Batman’s Espresso, the Steve Rogers Sour and Spidey’s Margarita, which comes complete with a glucose web candy.
