Originated and perfected in the UK, crumble is taking the Australian dessert world by storm—but this new treat is not your nana's apple crumble. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long for the craze to hit Brisbane, with Crumble Cave landing in the quiet streets of Newstead. Tucked into cafe and tapas bar Hive, this hole-in-the-wall dessert spot is here to sate your winter sugar cravings.
Though the end result will always be sweet and creamy crumble and custard bowl, it’s a choose-your-own-adventure style menu here, with the opportunity to mix and match warm or frozen custard (served soft serve-style) over hot stewed apple or rhubarb and berry, and of course several variations of crumble.
Toppings are endless, including a creme brulee crackle, Biscoff and chocolate drizzles and a variety of sprinkles. Trust us, you’ll be coming back to try multiple variations until you find the one you like best. Once you’ve got your bowl, you can sit down at one of the outdoor tables (they’re dog-friendly) or head inside the warehouse space home to Hive—or just take it home to enjoy in privacy.
