With the 2032 Brisbane Olympics coming up fast, Northshore Hamilton has been earmarked for the Olympic Village—and as such, we're beginning to see some promising spots pop up one by one in the area. One of the first to arrive is Ach Wine Bar, which you’ll find tucked away between office buildings along MacArthur Ave. Though the venue is as intimate as it gets–a humble 50-seater–this spot is worth seeking out for a bite to eat.
With indoor and outdoor seating to take advantage of the river breezes, Ach’s interiors are as sleek as they come, with dark green walls, a sandstone tiled bar and polished concrete tables. Visible deep inside is the impressive, custom-built hearth—which is what Ach translates to in Hebrew—the hardworking maestro behind their speciality woodfired noms.
Firing up a menu of modern Levantine-inspired feeds over that hearth are chefs Marty Coard and Noam Lissner, who opened the venue together with Mat Drummond (you might recognise the trio from Knowhere in Spring Hill). Here you can share plates of oysters baked with chilli and samphire butter, mushroom shawarma with baba ganoush and macadamia cheese, chicken shashlik skewers and caramelised carrots with labneh. They even make their own breads in house, including flaky malawach with white anchovies and dill cream and golden challah served with spiced bone marrow—a must-try.
If you head along in the morning you can select from breakfast delights of freshly baked breads and pastries, accompanied by coffee from Melbourne-based roaster Reverence. Later in the day though, a diverse wine list showcases both Middle Eastern gems and Australian delights, while the crafted cocktails, like the Karak Chai Martini, add a spirited twist to the Levantine experience.
