You’ve seen Brisbane from the river on our famous CityCats, from our riverfront bars and maybe even from the everyday kayaking, jet skis and tinny boats that make their way around the brown snake, however you probably haven’t seen it by water bike—but now you can. Launching just in time for summer, Riverlife Brisbane is adding a fleet of floating bicycles to their array of land and water-based activities, which you can hire or take on tour for a weekend excursion with a difference.
You’re probably wondering how exactly one rides a bike on water—and of course no one really wants to end up in our beautiful river. Riverlife Brisbane truly understands that, which is why the water bikes are extremely stable, floating on two long kayak shaped flotation devices, to keep their passengers from falling in—the only way you'll end up wet is if you literally jump into the water. Hop on (still in a life jacket of course) and ride your bike up to the Story Bridge and back, to see sights you might never have spotted from a river vantage point.
Of the new bikes Riverlife owner John Sharpe said, ““We’ve been delivering amazing kayaking experiences on the Brisbane River for over 15 years. These new water bikes are a unique new offering which allows us to showcase the incredible Brisbane River and city to visitors and locals. We’re expecting it to be our most popular experience this summer.”
You can hire a water bike for $39 per half hour from the Riverlife Adventure Centre at Kangaroo Point with private and guided group bookings also available.
