Whether you’ve never ventured to K’gari (Fraser Island) or you make an annual trip, here’s some news that might get you planning a summer getaway: plans are afoot to build a five-star resort on the sandy island.

A first-of-its-kind joint venture with the K’gari Education and Cultural Centre Aboriginal Corporation, established by one of the original families of the Butchella people in the area, the uber luxe resort will champion and authentically feature the island’s environment and its people’s history and culture, ensuring every aspect of the destination hotel is progressive and culture-led.

With 62 luxury villas and 64 premium suites, multiple restaurants, a beach club-style bar and rooftop, and a central pool, this will be unlike any of the accommodation options already available on K’gari and you can bet we are excited. It will also feature an amphitheatre for cultural events, an Aboriginal design studio for art classes, a wellness centre and so much more.

As well as being involved with the development of the resort, the Butchella people will be a huge part of the experiences on offer if and when it opens, with dance performances, fire performances, music, smoking ceremonies, basket weaving, storytelling and the like planned for the event calendar.

While it’s not locked in just yet, Chiodo Corporation, who are behind the planned development, are already in talks with the State Government and the Fraser Coast Council, and so far it’s looking good. We’ll be glued to our inbox waiting for news, so rest assured we’ll keep you updated when it drops.
