Named after literary legend Marcel Proust, this boutique hotel in the centre of the Marais is all about art intertwined with beauty and history. The star of the show is the water salon with a 10-metre heated pool, steam room and sauna, set to the theme of Arabian nights with shimmering lanterns and marble galore. The La Mer spa is the only place you’ll want to be after getting lost in the streets of the Marais all day and for a drink or two, the theatrically plush bar and salon with its starry sky dome ceiling and gold leaf sun are the ideal spot to sip on a glass of champagne. Inside the restored six story townhouse there’s 23 rooms all decked out in patterned silk, heavy curtains, gold decor and leather lined bathrooms. There’s even gold-thread monogrammed robes and towels to lounge around in before a big day out.
29 Rue de Poitou, 75003 Paris, France L'Hôtel du Petit Moulin
Once known as Paris’s oldest bakery frequented by none other than Victor Hugo (author of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame and Les Miserables) this secret hotel in the upper Marais is a bright and quirky treat for the senses. The facade was renovated back in 1900 and declared a historical monument, so you can expect the building front to resemble a traditional boulangerie whilst a superbly chic hotel hides behind it. All 17 rooms were decorated by famous fashion designer Christian Lacroix with boldly clashing colours and luxe fabrics. Lacroix took his inspiration from the idea of a voyage in both time and place with each room showcasing elements like a star-covered ceiling, zebra print wallpaper and catwalk sketches. From the hotel, you can walk to all of the best restaurants, cafes and bars in the area.

Looking like a scene from the life of Marie Antoninette, this five star hotel is a wonderland filled with stylish antiques, murals, richly-tiled bathrooms with marble sinks and brass taps and tapestry-hung walls. The restaurant is equally as impressive with Michelin-starred chef Assaf Granit slinging out Middle-Eastern style dishes and the bar serves up some of the neighbourhood’s loveliest cocktails. The basement pool is a haven with its candy-striped mosaic tiles and idyllic floral painted ceiling. You can lounge on deck chairs to admire the view and hop in and out of the separate jacuzzi and steam room.
