20 Chapel is a wood-fired Inner West restaurant by a trio of respected Sydney restaurant industry names: former Rockpool Bar & Grill culinary director Corey Costelloe, Dave Allison of STIX Farm in the Hawkesbury, and former maître d’ at Rockpool Bar & Grill, Anthony Qalilawa (who’s known Costelloe since they were 13).

On the former site of Allison’s STIX Cafe in a semi-industrial area of Marrickville, 20 Chapel seats 64 in the dining room, with a marble bar for solo diners or snackers and a chefs table for 6–12 overlooking the custom-made, wood-fired grill.

The menu offers premium Australian beef and pork (butchered and aged on site, presented as premium steaks and lesser-seen butcher’s cuts), top-tier seafood and hyper-seasonal, organic produce from STIX farm.

Highlights on the opening menu include wood-grilled baby octopus with burnt zucchini vinaigrette, Sichuan-spiced duck legs with smashed cucumbers, and a tarte Tatin using perfect in-season quince.

Negronis on tap, local spirits and beers from Ester Spirits, Young Henrys, Philter and Poor Tom’s, and a balanced selection of Australian and intentional wines curated by Costelloe and Qalilawa’s former colleague Richard Healey form the drinks menu.
