Meet SKØL, Scarborough’s New Neighbourhood Bar

By

SKØL, a table topped with share plates of food

Scarborough locals are spoilt for choice when it comes to great bars, but the addition of neighbourhood bar SKØL is a very welcome one. Meaning “cheers” in Norse, it should come as no surprise that SKØL is Scandi inspired all the way, from the simple elegance of the menu to the understated beauty.

Inside SKØL

Sitting pretty in the back courtyard of Drift Cafe, SKØL has completely transformed the area and found the perfect balance between clean-cut minimalism and welcoming laid back vibes. You’ll want to capture the perfect snap for your ‘gram then hang out there all afternoon.

The menu favours natural wines and house-crafted brews along with charcuterie boards and share plates, all perfect for an afternoon of picking and drinking with friends. Designed by Chef James—who has two Michelin Stars thanks to his time as Sous Chef at ALLA PRIMA in Seoul and was previously at Wildflower in Perth—you can expect fine dining flavours with a much more relaxed feel.

Food at SKØL

Co-owners Ben Noble and Mani Vogt teamed up with Ryan Croll of Drift Kitchen after realising their shared love of good coffee, food and drinks, and recognising the potential Drift had as a bar. Drift will still run as per usual during the day, so you can head in for a coffee and breakfast in the morning, then come back for a drink in the courtyard to soak up the afternoon sun. Doesn’t get much better than that.

SKØL is open now at 16a Calais Road Scarborough, so get in quick.
