Ten years ago if you were craving a good burger in Perth, you didn’t really have a whole lot to choose from. But these days, we’re pretty fortunate to have plenty of top-notch burger joints all over town. One of the latest is a cosy neighbourhood burger bar which has just popped up along Canning Highway, right next to Clancy’s Fish Pub, very appropriately named Highway Burger

Promising the tastiest burgs on the ‘highway to hell’ alongside pinball, beer, epic sides and all-round fun vibes, we had to pull in and scope out the new menu. The verdict? Well, let’s just say you’re going to want to come with a real big appetite.

Obviously the burgers are the star of the show, with a mix of smashed beef, buttermilk fried chicken and veggie options to choose from, all made with 100 per cent WA grown or made produce. Big eaters should have a crack at the huge Triple Cheeseburger or the downright outrageous Roadkill Burger, which features buttermilk fried chicken, a smashed beef pattie, streaky bacon, cheesy sauce and all the usual salad fillings.

If you’re not up for the traditional American flavours, the No Man's Land Burger is also exceptional—think sticky Korean style buttermilk chicken, pickled ginger, kimchi slaw and ponzu mayo all served on a charcoal bun. Don’t worry, you can of course keep it simple with a classic cheeseburger if that’s more your style.

If you do opt for something a little smaller on the burger end, the good news is that you can really make the most of the sides on offer. Highway Burger has got all your greasy cravings covered with their mind-blowing deep fried mac ‘n' cheese bites, spicy jalapeño poppers (careful they pack a punch) and loaded fries.

Need something to wash it all down? You’ll find crafty brews from the likes of Feral and Nail, as well as affordable tinnies (yes, we’re talking bush chooks). Or why not up the ante with one of their boozy slushies or shakes? Hot tip: if the espresso martini shake is on offer, don’t ask questions, just order.

Highway Burger is now open at 903a Canning Highway for dine-in and takeaway. Pull in for your next greasy fix.
