They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Point Chevalier’s new addition makes a sweet case for why it should be the centrepiece of your daily feeds.
When you first step into the sunny, corner cafe that is The Breakfast Club, three things are guaranteed. First, you’ll be in absolute awe of the invitingly bright, modern diner-like spot splashed with psychedelic chic patterns and the on-point 50's diner outfits. Second, your eyes will ogle the pretty and packed treat cabinet. Third, your jaw will be on the floor when you see the beautiful fare making its way to the tables.
As the name suggests, The Breakfast Club dishes up our favourite AM feeds—but better—all day. Well, until 3pm daily (for the moment).
It's the brainchild of hospo power couple Isaac and Shanay Yu, who you might know from the likes of SlowLane. The Breakfast Club keeps in tow with their impeccable foodie tastes and quality brews—while celebrating a new chapter—Shanay’s stepping into carving out an eatery, her favourite pink is strong in the design of the cafe of which she took the reins.
Think you know a croffle? The Breakfast Club stacks it with fried chicken, lashings of sage leaves (hello crispiness), alongside a rather addictive ‘slaw and a side of maple in the Nashville Fried Chicken Croffle. As for its sweet counterpart, the BB Split comes drizzled with caramel corn, biscuit bits, fruits and a coconut sorbet before being lashed by crunchy brulée bananas.
True to its diner-esque setting, pancakes are a staple. Opt for the classic kind (which can be made vegan), or level up with one of their more jazzy stacks. Berries and Cream cater to vegans with coconut cream throughout, while Choccy Supreme takes you on a textural journey of the chocolatey variety. It’s complete with crunchy chocolate nibs, honeycomb, a velvety whipped chocolate cream, and chocolate ice cream for good measure. Fancy yourself matcha obsessed? Opt for the Chacha Matcha for a tripling down of the flavour: in a drizzle, an ice cream scoop, and freshly whipped cream. Trust us, they’re the most moreish pancakes in Auckland.
No stack is complete without a thick shake nearby, of which The Breakfast Club has equally inventive creations. Make no mistake, these aren’t any basic syrupy pump n’ dumps. They're drizzled with fresh syrups, real fruit, smooth ice cream, and textures galore. Opt for a fresh Strawberry Bliss, Matcha Swirl, Gooey PB&J or crunchy Choccy Maltese and more—you won’t be bored.
More of a fizzy fan? You’re in luck, their fruity sodas—crisp green apple, watermelon, passionfruit, peach, strawberry—are in a league of their own. Fresh, flavourful and very, very easy to guzzle.
Savoury dishes get The Breakfast Club spin too. There’s the Club Benny—poached eggs, hollandaise, delicate beetroot cured salmon—made indulgent with a hearty, but finely grated hash base. Shakshuka gets a decadent spin with chicken meatballs, spinach and cheese in the Meatball Medley. As for a classic, the Club Cheeseburger? Dig into the smoked cheddar-topped wagyu, followed by its sunchoke chips for a twist.
Vegetarians are totally covered too: with the likes of a spicy, chilli-soaked scramble, a sauteed vegebowl and an avocado caprese toast, complete with bocconcini, greenery, creamy avo and a perfect garnish of dukkah.
Oh, and if you happen to have some room in your stomach, a The Breakfast Club Sundae wouldn’t go amiss. After all, who can say no to the likes of Hazelnut & Olive Oil, Pavlova, Strawberry & Cream creations?
Finish with a post-feed espresso—by one of Auckland's best, after all, co-owner Isaac has more than a few coffee accolades under his belt—and you’ll be sweetly set. Whether that’s to take on the day or tackle your food coma, however, that’s for you to find out.
