The Verdict

As one door closes, a delicious one opens. Taking residence in the gone-but-never-forgotten space of former beloved bar Peach Pit is Tempero—Auckland’s brand new Pan-Latin bistro and bar.

Meticulously and deliciously melding together flavours and influences from Brazil, Mexico, Portugal, Peru (and then some), chef Fabio Bernardini and his tight-knit team have created an intimate space where authenticity shines and dishes delight. While small, the carefully curated menu of light bites and sharing mains gives diners of this 40-seat eatery a glimpse into Fabio’s heritage and expertise through a smörgåsbord of smoky, sweet and simply irresistible flavours.

When pairing cheese and dough together you know you’re in for a great time and Tempero's Pão de Queijo perfectly prove this logic. Break into these Brazilian bite-sized bread morsels and discover a steamy and stretchy cheese filling that paves the way for dunking into every other dish on the menu (if you have the willpower to wait for mains, that is). Our pick? The Acarajé. Stemming from the northernmost region of Brazil, acarajé is considered one of the most popular street food dishes around—and after one spoonful, it’s easy to see why. These crispy black-eyed pea cakes are stuffed with an okra and palm heart (vatapá) filling, providing subtle coconut sweetness and rich, umami flavours. Psst—this completely vegetarian dish is bound to win over even the heartiest of meat-eaters. And for those who insist on ending a meal with something sweet (we see you), you'll be pleased to know there's dessert. And not that stodgy-verging-on-food-baby vibe - more light and zesty palette cleansers like the passionfruit mousse.

From his Brazilian roots to working in some of the world’s top restaurants, Fabio is no stranger to outstanding cuisine and cultures, and as we welcome Auckland’s first Pan-Latin restaurant, get ready to be bowled over by Tempero's brilliantly bold dishes that both intrigue and impress.
