The Verdict
The team behind Deadshot and Caretaker have just unveiled their latest creation, and this one comes with a hidden karaoke room and prosecco on tap.
Just upstairs from the wait-list-inducing underground bar Caretaker lies Rocketman, an incredible new party bar that’s open Wednesday to Saturday from 5pm to 2am or maybe even 3am.
Once home to a cavernous nightclub, the team have transformed the space into an intimate, low-lit haven with retro-futuristic vibes. Peruse the full drinks menu for a taste of things to come and step up to the bar to order your first hit of the night—a giggle juice—AKA freshly pressed apple juice combined with your choice of spirit and served over ice. Plump for apple juice with vodka for a clean-tasting dram to start the night off or a spiced rum for a late-night pick-me-up. Genius.
Peckish? Soak up all that good booze with a broad spectrum of toasties with fillings like bacon jam, mortadella, provolone and honey and shiitake, kimchi and mozzarella. Damn.
With David Bowie-inspired drinks on the cocktail list to the bar’s eponymous name, expect 90s hip-hop tunes that we all know and love, with a dash of disco, and live bands playing jazz-hip-hop. Vibes. When the night draws on and things get a bit loose, expect singalong faves to keep the party going and if you want to kick it up a notch, a visit to Ms Kitty’s Parlour might be just the thing.
A glitter-ball spinning, velvet-curtain draping karaoke room hidden behind a cupboard (in true Caretaker/Deadshot style) will definitely get you in the mood for performing with a varied set list, space for eight people and a stage for performing. Oof. Nab drinks and/or snacks next door for $20 per person and the space is yours for an hour of hopefully spine-tingling renditions—or more likely—off-key inducing belly laughs.
In a world of bars that take themselves too seriously, Rocketman is the breath of fresh air you didn't know you needed.

Bistro Saine
Wander down the cobblestones of Saint Patrick’s Square and you might happen upon the luxurious first floor of newly-built Hotel Indigo, housed in a restored heritage building. You can enter through the other side too—the Albert Street entrance blending into the concrete jungle as if it was always there (just look for the elegant Bistro Saine font out front).
Takapuna Surf Club
When you hear the words surf club, what comes to mind? I think of ice cream, pizza, and Alf Stewart (I haven't watched Home & Away in years, but I understand the Summer Bay Surf Club is still standing. Poor old Mr. Stewart, I'm not so sure).
