The Verdict

Mr. Brightside invites you to come out of your cage and look on the bright side of life at their rooftop bar. Located at the heart of the city in Oxford Terrace, this penthouse-style bar is perched on top of the iconic Public Trust Building. With panoramic 360 views of the city, your troubles melt away as you gaze out at Port Hills, the Avon River, Cathedral Square and at the snowcapped mountains in the distance. The bar is covered with a retractable roof, making it the perfect spot to catch some rays while enjoying some tipple in the warmer months.

Speaking of tipple, the drinks menu is extensive and caters to all folk. For cocktail lovers, enjoy a G&T made with European or local gin, a mojito with a twist or one of Mr. Brightside's specialty mixes. The Californication features Arquitecto tequila, Aperol, pink Grapefruit, agave and lime. This fruity number has some bite, and pairs beautifully with sunset views over the garden city. If spirits are more your thing, then there is a range of gin, vodka, rum and whisky available. Team wine and beer, we haven't forgotten about you. Enjoy local or international wines or the range of beers on tap or in bottles. They even have Pals on tap if that's more your thing!

The good times keep coming with the bar's food menu. With bar foods and offerings that give a nod to Asian flavours, there's bound to be something that tickles your fancy. We recommend the cauliflower tacos. Covered in spices and topped with a zesty lime slaw, these bad boys are truly an explosion of flavour.

And let's address the elephant in the room - the bar gives a nod to its namesake with lyrics of The Killers song in neon lighting. There are also multiple statement pieces around the space, including a purple art mural, making it the ultimate spot for the 'gram. How good.

So heed the call of destiny and make your way down (or more precisely, up) to Mr. Brightside, enjoy a drink and views and savour the bright side of life.
