Travel may be off limits for now but with Disney’s multi-award winning show The Lion King coming to our shores, spending an evening in Africa just became possible, no quarantine needed.
The response to the show going on sale has been phenomenal, with more than 100,000 tickets already sold. The show now holds the record as New Zealand's fastest-selling musical.
The international cast is made up from 16 nationalities, with the lead role of Simba recently announced as New Zealander Nick Afoa. Ka pai!
This June the Michael Cassell Group (the team behind Les Misérables, Kinky Boots, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and more) in association with Disney Theatrical Productions will transform Spark Arena into the breathtaking plains of the African savannah.
We’ve been waiting some twenty years for the New Zealand début so to say we’re beyond excited is a huge understatement. With exquisite costuming, classic bangers like Hakuna Matata, The Circle of Life and Can You Feel The Love Tonight, and feats of lighting genius this is one musical that just keeps on giving.
For the uninitiated, ‘The Lion King’ tells the story of Simba, a lion cub who’s next-in-line to become king of The Pride Lands but when tragedy strikes he flees to a tropical paradise leaving his family behind forever... or does he?
A solid dose of 'no worries for the rest of your days' might not be enough to put an end to the pandemic but it’ll definitely provide a night of nostalgic, heart-warming escapism, which could be just what the doctor ordered. Snap up your tickets now.
