Calling all pickle fans. In honour of International Pickle Day on November 14, eateries in Auckland and Wellington will be displaying their culinary might from 14 to 20 November to bring you simply dill-icious eats featuring McClure’s much-loved sweet and spicy pickles, culminating in an epic new Pickle Festival. Say what?
Last year's sell-out creation is back this week in the form of the extraordinary pickle doughnut served up by none other than Auckland's Dougnut darlings Doe Donuts. Made with cream cheese, feta and dill filling, slices of pickles, and topped with a pickle juice dill glaze it will only be available at their pink Grey Lynn store from November Wednesday 16 to Saturday 19 so if this sounds like a bit of you, don't hang about.
Best Ugly Bagels is bringing back its hugely popular Pickolas Cage Bagel for the third time (made with McClure’s Pickles, Zany Zeus Cream Cheese, Tasty Cheese, Fresh Chopped Dill and Onion Soup Mix) available in six Auckland and Wellington stores from November 14-20.
Wellington-based friends can also join in the pickly fun as Dirty Burger and The Kaarage Kid have created a tantalising Peanut Butter Pickle Shake, made from McClure’s Pickle Juice & Pic's Peanut Butter blended with creamy soft serve. Ok, minds officially blown.
Round out the week with a visit to the inaugural pickle festival taking place from 12 pm-8 pm on Sunday, November 20 at Churly's Brewpub in Mount Eden. Expect a fully loaded festival menu comprising a Pickle Dog, Corned Beef and Pickle Croquettes, Pickle and Cheese Sando and Fried Pickles.
If the idea of pickle drinks tickle your fancy, wash them all down with a glass of Behemoth Brewing Company’s gold medal-winning Pickle Beer, a Pickle Nick Pickle Juice sour 5.5% and a pickle back. You can even pick up your next giant jar of McClure's Pickles from a Cook and Nelson stall on the day. Add to this games of Pickleball and you're set for an absolute pickle extravaganza.
So whether you’re a die-hard pickle fan, on the fence or just pickle-curious—we'll see you there.
