It’s the end of the week and if you’re looking forward to a few cheeky bevs to wind down with you’re certainly not alone. So while after work drinks are great and all, sometimes there’s nothing like challenging your mates to a game of skill while you’re at it.
Enter Sweat Shop Brew Kitchen. They’ve set up the Sweat Shop Shuffle Club—Auckland’s only floor-based shuffleboard—on their expansive deck.
So what the hell is shuffleboard? Wildly popular overseas—when not in various lockdowns natch—shuffleboard is a kind of cross between curling and bowling, but minus the veruca shoes. Teams of up to eight can play but six players is the sweet spot.
The idea is for your team to rack up as many points as possible whilst avoiding the dead zone which will deduct points. As scores are only calculated after all the ‘biscuits’ aka shuffleboard pucks, for the round have been played, you’re absolutely encouraged to knock your opponent’s biscuits off their prime spot. Cue plenty of spirited banter and accusations of unfair play (just us?). Check out the full rules right here.
So next time you’re looking for something to do with your mates, head to the shuffleboard.
