Not a fan of excessive eye contact on the first date? Tired of eating with your eyes and not with your stomach? Or simply looking for a dining experience with a little more excitement? Well, look no further (pun intended...)
Dans Le Noir ?—a dining-in-the-dark phenomenon that’s wowed over two million people worldwide is returning to Auckland's Millenium Hotel on March 23.
Here’s how it works. The whole place will be in pitch darkness, you’ll be guided to your chair by visually impaired waiters and walked through a mystery three-course Japanese-inspired menu, by Chef Akihiro Nakamura. In theory, your sense of taste and smell should be heightened, like Daredevil, allowing you to taste flavours usually only accessible to bats and dogs. Don’t quote us on that.
The guides-waiters are recruited with the help of local organisations and are trained by Dans le Noir's ? team of experts. Some members of the previous team of guides are even joining the adventure again. Says James Billing, GM of Millenium "Creating an environment in which staff with disabilities can excel is exciting as it is rewarding. In a world where we take so much for granted, I find the Dans le Noir ? experience humbling and refreshingly unique." Rad.
Dinner will be available Thursday through Saturday at $110 for the sensory awakening three-course menu or $155 with matching wines.
Book your tickets here because this will possibly be the most exciting dining experience of your life… anything can happen in the dark.
P.S. We wouldn’t recommend wearing your best outfit because this has the potential to get a little messy.
