The Verdict
On the former site of the Lygon Food Store now lies Lagoon Dining, the creation of young hospitality trio Chris Lerch, Keat Lee and Ned Trumble, who met while working at Ezard in 2013.
Lagoon Dining fare is based largely on the culinary traditions of Chinese cooking but not to the exclusion of other influences. We’re talking sharing plates like popcorn chicken, dumplings or larger dishes like beef short rib, tofu knots and steamed market fish. If you’re feeling cheeky, you can finish it all off with a malt parfait or mango pudding: not too intense but perfectly satisfying.
The drink list at Lagoon is nothing to be scoffed at either: there’s an impressive list of regularly changing local and imported wines, beers and spirits, courtesy of sommelier Ben Skipper. From Moon Dog beers to good ol’ Aperol Spritz, you’ll find something for even the pickiest mate. But if you’re looking for something a bit fancier, take your pick from the massive wine list; you won’t be disappointed.
Lagoon Dining is open every day except Tuesdays, so pop in and get your little dose of delectable Asian cuisine right in the middle of Lygon Street’s hustle and bustle.
