THE VERDICT

Figlia made a splash in the Brunswick East dining scene a couple of years back now, and has had its praises sung far and wide ever since. It’s from the crew behind the Tipo 00 and Osteria Illaria Famiglia and, like its sibling venues, there’s one star of the show at Figlia—pizza.

The pizzeria sits on the corner of Lygon Street and Victoria Street, and it retains all the swagger and excellence we’ve come to expect from the team. The space is indicative of the dining experience—relaxed and homely with elevated touches throughout.

The moment you pick up the menu, you’re greeted with a slew of options to tackle before you reach for a pizza. From the ‘stuzzichini’ and antipasti sections, you can never do wrong with the polpo (octopus) skewer, house-made polenta focaccia, and the melanzana (eggplant) with creamy stracciatella and apple cucumber. If you’re extra peckish, go for the gnocchi or polenta frittata. 

Now, the pizza. The crew make their own organic sourdough base, so you know the crust is going to have that perfectly crisp crunch and overall richer in flavour without the heaviness. Every good pizzeria should be judged by their margherita, and this one certainly is a hot contender to top them all—hence why we think they’re serving some of the best pizza around town.
