The Verdict
Taking its name from French author Jean Savarin, known as the godfather of modern gastronomy; Bar Savarin is the latest diner and wine bar to hit the southeastern suburbs.
Situated on Keys Road, Cheltenham, the swank-filled operation is based on the classic wine bar and bottle shops of central Europe.
Led by a collective of bayside hospitality alumni that includes the likes Applehead Deli, Grape & Grain Bottle Shop and Custodian Kitchen, this new community-centric venture has a team with a wealth of knowledge and experience at the helm. Its classic euro style sits somewhere between a French bistro, an aperitivo bar, and a tapas restaurant with dark-stained wooden tables, a marble bar and shelves lined with a variety of drops.
The food offering is nostalgic but also has its eyes on the future, blazing the trail for what’s expected from a wine bar in the suburbs. Expect small wine accompaniments like mount zero olives, or grilled chicken wings with salsa verde all the way up to larger main plates like Gippsland rump with a saltbush-infused butter sauce.
The wine shop of Bar Savarin is a refined selection of imported wines including several drops from French vineyard regions with full-bodied reds as well a showcasing of local producers with pet nats, rosé and more. You can order in-store as well as online and there's also free same-day delivery within 10km of the store for orders placed before 2pm, with no minimum spend.
