Sitting pretty in the burgeoning foodie hub that is Nobby Beach lies Buoy, standing out like a beacon to hungry passerbys. This new breakfast hotspot is primely located in Nobby’s highly-anticipated new dining precinct, The Oxley and if you don’t spot the whitewashed cafe first, you’ll certainly smell the freshly roasted coffee.
From the crew behind Burleigh Heads coffee institution Seadog, Buoy has a strong ethos of keeping it simple, and doing it damn well. Created with the laidback Nobby Beach lifestyle in mind, Buoy is serving up classic yet elevated breakfast favourites—with a top-notch coffee to pair, of course.
The pared back menu champions sustainably sourced, premium produce and sources all products from local growers in the Southern Gold Coast and Northern Rivers, where possible. You can score your caffeine fix all day long—a rarity on the Gold Coast—and the breakfast seamlessly transitions into a long lunching affair.
Founder Brodie Green was firm on ensuring Buoy took things back to basics, streamlining the menu to be less on frills but big on flavour.
“Breakfasts have gotten too complicated because of Instagram, and we think people are over it. Gold Coasters want their classic breakfasts back,” said Brodie
“As well as having tasty ingredients we’re also conscious of our farmers across the Southern Gold Coast who have experienced severe weather over the past two years—these local farms are where we’re buying our organic eggs, honey and produce for Buoy”.
Now, of course, the coffee. Since Brodie cut his teeth at Seadog—voted Best Cafe on the Gold Coast in 2020—we know the coffee is going to be top-tier. Buoy uses premium Colombian beans sourced from three sustainable farms; pair that with a La Marzocco under-counter coffee machine and you’re in for a supreme cup of bean juice with unique notes of rich caramel.
Buoy has been designed with a hole-in-the-wall section, as an ode to the original Seadog that hailed from a vacant ATM space, which creates an intimate dining space and communal atmosphere.
We love a charming new cafe, and Buoy is serving up charm in spades.
