There's nothing better than coming home to those big puppy dog eyes at the end of the day find your best bud waiting for you. But, with great doggos come great responsibility.
We've teamed up with City Of Gold Coast to spread the word about the upcoming dog registration deadline—Wednesday, 31 August. ICYMI, pooches must be registered to the city. To help get you started, the council is cutting fees for three years of registration with a 'pay for two years and get one free' offering.
Registering also unlocks a massive range of free services and products. Think discounted desexing, a heap of fun organised pet park pop-ups, social dog walking get-togethers and pet education and training sessions.
Let's be honest, life admin can easily slip your mind, especially if you're moving address. Remember, you must provide the council with your most up-to-date deets; this helps maintain and plan for new dog off-leash areas while keeping authorities informed of where dog supplies, pet education programs and off-leash areas are most needed. With over 130 off-leash areas already across the city, including pristine beaches, foreshore and parks, there's no better place to take your pup for a run than our beautiful city.
A 'walked' dog is a happier and healthier one. Think decreased loneliness, strengthened bonds with your pet—and that's not to mention off-leash areas being a great way to meet new people.
If you are new to the pawrent game, here's a checklist of everything you need to help you get started:
• Matching lead and collar (with the yellow registration tag and name tag visible)
• Microchipping
• Vet check – vaccinations and worming
• Puppy training and socialisation
• Grooming
• Nutritional diet for growing bones
• Shelter or comfy bed to give them their own space and keep them off your bed
• Suitable enclosure or fencing to keep them safely contained
• Pet insurance for those unexpected moments
