Single O

Single O is one of Sydney's OG purveyors of fine bean juice. These guys have been championing and cheering caffeine in all its finer formats since 2003 and their pint-sized Surry Hills cafe was one of the spots where Sydney’s coffee culture really kicked off. After taking on Brisbane’s coffee scene with their first Queensland location opening in Newstead 2023, they've quickly become a local fave too—so much so that they've already had to expand the Austin Street cafe. 

No longer just a hole-in-the-wall coffe spot, you'll now find ample indoor seating thanks to a sustainable fit out that features banquette seating, responsibly harvested cork, a skylight to let in lashings of natural wood and a one of a kind wallpaper created from Single O coffee bags. 

Along with the interiors, the food menu has expanded too. While you can still grab an Agnes Bakery pastry to go, you also now have to option to sit down and linger over breakfasts like the Avo Show, a Surry Hills fave that combines avo, achiote cashew cheese, pickled fennel, seasoned crumb and chilli oil on seeded sourdough, or the Boris Chickpea Cliber—poached eggs atop tomato harissa chickpeas, whipped fetta labneh, za'atar, zhoug, dill and sourdough.

That iconic banana bread with espresso butter has stuck around, as of course has their signature coffee-on-tap counter, where you can self-serve rotating single origin batch brews and the cult-favourite oat iced latte. Don’t worry though, they also  pour all the espressos, long blacks and milky coffees you could want, along with hot chocolates, chai lattes and matchas. If you want a real buzz though, sip your way through the Origin Three Way Flight—a select single origin served three ways with a palette cleanser.
