We’re a little bit jealous of Pat Blue. As the menswear designer and creative director behind eponymous Australian label, Jac+Jack, we have no doubt the depths of his wardrobe are filled with the brand’s sumptuous cashmere essentials and luxe basics.
The label's Spring 2012 offering is in store now, and is awash with gelato inspired colours, airy fabrics and geometric prints that will make you feel as though you’ve just landed somewhere in the Mediterranean. We took two with this master of menswear staples to find out what makes him tick.
TUL: Describe in one sentence what you do for work?
I design clothes, mostly for men, and work on a few other bits and pieces at Jac+Jack.
TUL: What is the most exciting part of your job?
Seeing someone out that has liked clothes (you were sketching ten months before) enough to buy them.
TUL: If you weren’t working in your profession, what other career would you choose?
Probably a carpenter, though I would like to try my hand at philanthropy.
TUL: Describe your style.
For the most part mono-tone and a little dishevelled.
TUL: If you could have a super power what would it be?
Invisibility for sure.
TUL: Must haves for the season?
It's cold at the moment, so I'd suggest our Cashmere Bon Sweater but I’m looking forward to wearing our new Roberts rugby short soon.
TUL: The last thing you purchased?
Another pair of Repetto loafers, they are pretty much all I wear for shoes.
TUL: Best way to spend $50?
5 rounds with a friend.
TUL: And the best way to spend $500?
50 rounds with a friend? More likely a posh dinner with my girl and some friends.
TUL: 3 great reads? Or musicians/albums you have on high rotation?
I’m always listening to Bob Dylan and Sonic Youth. Recently, after watching the documentary 'Who is Harry Nilson', I've been listening to a bit of his music.
TUL: What was the last song you downloaded?
A House Is Not A Home by The Gun Club
TUL: The best gift that you have ever received?
I’m lucky to have too many to decide on one. A recent favourite was a seaplane ride over The Great Barrier Reef after snorkelling.
TUL: The best gift that you have ever given?
A trip overseas.
TUL: What would you request for your last meal on earth?
Real Italian pizza, a glass of Coke and a bottle of white Bourgogne. No need to be healthy if it's my last.
TUL: What is your Sunday routine?
I like to sleep in as late as possible, head down to the beach for a swim and laze about then spend the evening sitting around reading magazines/internet.
TUL: Latest Brisbane discovery?
The new Dirtbox store in Fortitude Valley, I wish there were more menswear stores like this in Australia.
