Two Minutes with Alejandro Cancino

Born in Argentina, Alejandro left home at the age of 18 for a three month scholarship and never returned (expect for the odd holiday to visit his Mum). Since leaving home he has seen out a number of amazing achievements including; working in the world's number three ranked restaurant, Mugaritz in Spain, and winning Young Chef of the Year UK in 2008. 

 

For the past two years Alejandro has been Chef de Cuisine at Bulgari Hotels and Resorts Tokyo Restaurants in Japan where they won a Michelin star during his tenure. Did I mention he is only 28-years-old? Seeking a more laid-back lifestyle, he has recently moved to Brisbane with his wife.

 

An amazing asset to our city's dining scene, Alejandro is the new Executive Chef at Urbane Restaurant and The Euro. 

TUL: Describe in one sentence what you do for work?
Cook, and organize a team to deliver a nice experience to the guests of Urbane Restaurant.

TUL: What is the most exciting part of your job?
Working with fresh produce.

TUL: If you weren’t working in your profession, what other career would you choose?
Journalist.

Fresh, local, modern.

TUL: If you were an animal, what would you be?
Bird.

TUL: If you could have a super power what would it be?
Fly.

An iPad.

Go out with friends...
