Style Mavens: Garance Doré

My last couple of Mavens and Mavericks posts have been about style icons from eras gone by. For this edition, I’ve been thinking about today’s style icons; while I’ll happily admit to loving the styles of the past and being a vintage girl at heart, I do also try and keep up with what’s going on in contemporary fashion. Amongst the throes of all the fashion blogs, films and shows, fashion blogger Garance Doré really stands out for me.

- Doré's laid back Parisian style -

Doré and her partner, Scott Schuman, (he of The Sartorialist renown) are arguably fashion’s first couple and definitely at the top of the food-chain when it comes to international street-style blogs. Doré’s talent is multi-faceted. She is at heart an illustrator, starting her eponymous blog in 2006 as a way to get feedback on her drawing. Over time it has evolved into a bilingual empire, show-casing Doré’s fashion photography, musings and films, along with special projects and designer collaborations.

Gorgeous, talented, and very French, Doré seems naturally suited to her It-Girl status (while resisting this term). At the same time, she’s made it her mission to bring her avid readers along for the ride, taking them behind the scenes and to the front row of exclusive runway shows to meet the designers and editors. She somehow manages to seem like everyone’s best friend and personal confidante (I met her once and felt this way in her company), while also garnering serious respect within the industry. Doré and Schuman recently became the first bloggers to receive the CFDA Eugenia Sheppard Media Award.
