Queensland Beer Week

There is a bit of a beer movement happening in Brisbane at the moment, and what better way to celebrate the amber ale (and lager, pilsner, stout… you get my drift) than during Queensland Beer Week - a week-long beerapalooza starting next week! With a host of beery cool events on every day (from the 16th-22nd), there is something for everyone.

 

 

Here’s my pick of events to whet your appetite:

 

Australia’s most high-profile brewer and passionate beer expert, Dr Chuck Hahn, will host an evening at The Fox. The ever-popular James Squire range of beers will be matched with tasting dishes and a lesson in beer appreciation.

Beer and a movie? Yes please! One of our favourite beer bars, The Scratch, will showcase four beers on tap from Viven – a quirky Belgium brewer - and a number of beer-themed flicks curated by The Scratch’s self-confessed ‘supergeek’. All-you-can-eat popcorn included.

 

Take a seat in the Heritage Room at The Story Bridge Hotel for a special dining (and drinking) experience. Expect a range of quality beers, perfectly matched with dishes designed by the Bridge’s executive chef. Join brewers from Moo and Mountain Goat as they chat about all things beer. 

 

Beers supplied by Mountain Goat and the matching menu, supplied by Esquire, promise to make The Scratch’s ‘Scratch & Sniff’ night something special. A pop-up kitchen will be manned by the talented Esquire team, and we can’t wait to see what they put up while we learn about all the ways that food and beer can go together. 

 

Head to New Farm favourite, Bitter Suite, for beers on tap from Mountain Goat, an informal chat with Head Brewer and co-founder Dave Bonighton, and a beer and food degustation prepared by Head Chef, Andy Birse.

Jump on a bus and set off on a five-hour tour of some of Brisbane's best beer venues. The International, Brisbane Brewhouse, The Scratch, and Archive are among the stops and there will be plenty of beers (and food) to keep you going. All this, without having to fight over who drives! 

 

One for the cider fans. The Burrow is hosting the Queensland launch of new ‘Hybrid Series’ ciders from The Hills Cider Company. Grab one of The Burrow’s famous pizzas and settle in.
