West End can be a little confusing for those of us who aren’t Southside locals. Secret gems are often hidden behind tiny old shopfronts, or wedged in between the likes of a not-so-savoury kebab stall and a miscellaneous outlet selling incense and tie dyed kaftans. The reality is, unless you have the time and patience to partake in some adventurous wandering, you may never come across the hidden treasures locals boast of. So, to help you traverse this cultural melting pot of a suburb, we present to you our picks of the precint: a few Urban List favs to get you started.

West End’s latest vintage store, La Brocante Rag and Bone, pays homage to the flea markets of Paris and the so-called ‘rag and bone’ merchants who started them back in the late 1800s. Bursting with vintage gems not to be missed.

As the name suggests, The Burrow is a cosy little place perfect for a mid-week pizza. With it’s long wooden tables, extensive list of ciders and straight from the oven piping hot pizza this one takes the crown for our favourite new dining spot.

Fast becoming a West End institution in its own right, Caravanserai is one of our favourites if you are chasing some of the suburb’s best Turkish. With its dim lighting, big tables and huge share plates this spot is perfect for a low-key night out.

These guys take their coffee pretty seriously, churning out their signature brew from their converted garage, which hides just of the suburb's main drag. A must visit if you are after a coffee that packs a punch.

Buried amongst the burgeoning restaurants fronts of Hardgrave Street sits The Red Hen; some of the best Italian you’ll come by this side of Vulture. A buzzing café during the day this spot really shines come the 5pm mark when its dinner menu kicks in to full swing.
