For The Non Drinkers
By Kim Barnard | Posted in Plating Up | 6 July 2012 12:02PM
I love coffee. Love. We have a bit of a thing going, actually. Coffee just makes mornings (and happy hour) sooo much sparklier. And more, you know, awake-y.
I have many friends, though, who don’t feel the same attachment to the caffeinated bean that I do. They don’t like the taste/buzz/cliché of it.
Crazy? Perhaps. But, luckily, Brisbane is an inclusive city. No matter what your beverage of choice, there are plenty of options that can make life as a non-coffee-drinker a little more rosy.

Here are my top picks for the ‘non-drinkers’ among us:
Chai Tea | Café Bouquiniste
There is something about a really great chai, and Café Bouquiniste does it so well. Creamy, warm, spicy, and rich – perfect for winter. Great for those that still want the caffeine hit.

Chocolate Milkshake | Milk
Possibly the best milkshake of my life. So, so good. Add a burger and some fries and you’re in for a treat.
Where: 9/16 Ashgrove Avenue, Ashgrove

Muddled Juice | Anouk
Just in case you needed another reason to visit Paddington institution, Anouk, alongside their glorious breakfast menu is a superb range of muddled juices. A lime, mint and lychee juice is the best Sunday morning pick-me-up.
Where: 212 Given Terrace, Paddington

Hot Chocolate | Campos
There are some occasions that just call for a hot chocolate. And Campos Italian Hot Chocolate is something else. A must for every sweet tooth.
Where: 11 Wandoo Street, Fortitude Valley

What have I missed? Don't be shy, let me know!

The mango lassi at Pablo (with ginger and lime) is fabulous. Dandelion and Driftwood have an array of teas (they don't just do coffee!). Shucked Coffee House also have a great range of milkshakes including butterscotch and white chocolate.
The hot chocolates at Bunker (Railway Tce, Milton) are legendery. Milk choc, white choc or my fave, 70% dark chock. Plus specials like chilli choc and turkish delight! They grate the chocolate themselves twice a week. UNbelievably good.
The Tea Centre in Albert Lane in the CBD has an amazing array of teas, and the best iced tea anywhere. The soy chai latte at West End Coffee House is definitely worth your time and although I'm not a hot chocolate kind of girl, I've heard that Roost does one of the greatest versions in town.
I'm a non-drinker. Just can't get in to coffee (I am the only one in The Urban List office!) I am partial to a green tea, the Southside Tea Room do a great one. I've also heard Pearl Cafe do an amazing milkshake.
