Music on a Monday: Chet Faker at Alhambra

A few times a month, our local mix master, Adam Gerrard, gives us the lowdown on some of Brisbane’s best live music gigs. Next on the agenda is Chet Faker at Alhambra Lounge in Fortitude Valley. We'll see you there!
Bursting on to the music blog scene and to the top of the Hype Machine chart about 12 months ago*, Melbourne's Chet Faker has gathered some like-minded musicians and turned his bedroom project into a fully fledged live band.
His electronic compositions may not sound conducive to live instrumentation, but after listening to his first ever live show on SoundCloud I think he has done well to arrange the instruments slightly differently for live performances, in a way which fleshes out the sound rather than limits it. For an inaugural performance the band sound incredibly tight – an exciting feature as this dynamic will only improve with time.
Since recording this show three months ago, Chet Faker has already sold out the Thinking In Textures EP shows in Melbourne and Sydney, and has garnered quite a following overseas. If this sounds like your bag check out his SoundCloud and buy a ticket (for a measly $15!) before they're all gone.
*with his brilliant cover of Black Street's classic hip hop jam No Diggity.
Where: Chet Faker | Alhambra Lounge and Bar is located at 12 McLachlan Street in Fortitude Valley
When: Saturday, 21st April 2012
Cost: $15
Enjoyed this week's review? Adam also recommends checking out Pond at Alhambra on 20 April 2012. Check out more of Adso's Mix Master handiwork, including Real Estate at The Zoo, St. Vincent at The Hi-Fi and the Hottest Australian Countdown (an all-Oz alternative to Triple J's best).
