The CBD: Central Beer District

Monday through Thursday the CBD may be an acronym for Central Business District, but come 5pm Friday, it officially turns into the Central Beer o'clock District.  There is certainly no shortage of grubby pubs to enjoy a schooner of beer around the city, but I am much more interested in the bars that are making a name for themselves by serving boutique and craft beers.  Thanks to these fine watering holes, beer tasting has become quite the sophisticated affair and we can all acquire a taste for the finer drops of golden liquid.

Perfectly positioned on the Eagle Street waterfront, the Bavarian Bier Cafe is a local hotspot for after work drinks.  Expect to choose from a wide range of authentic Pure Biers on tap, while sampling Bavarian cuisine from the menu.

Beer has been brewed in Belgium since the days of the Roman conquest, so you can trust the Belgian Beer Cafe to deliver an authentic European beer experience.  Flowing from the grandeur of the traditional dining hall is a charming beer garden that is picture perfect for a Friday afternoon beverage.

The Laneway is a chic bar hidden in the elevated space above its sister restaurants, The Euro and Urbane.  It has a boast-worthy selection of boutique beers and cider.  I am also a big fan of the cocktail menu here.

Moo Moo may be renowned for its steak and wine, but the Moobar is also definitely worth checking out for its beer list.  There is an impressive selection of local and imported beer that appeals to a cosmopolitan crowd.

The Villager lures its patrons in with its eclectic design and buzzing atmosphere.  The gastrobar on the ground level of this unique establishment offers traditional comfort food, complemented by an extensive list of local and international boutique beers.

There has been a little Twitter chat this morning about spots that weren't on this particular list of CBD establishments. Rest assured we know and love Super Whatnot and Brew
