Breakfast at Bungalow 4171
By Elspeth Nielson | Posted in The Verdict | 13 June 2012 7:00AM

Newly opened Bungalow 4171, in Hawthorne, is a breakfast hideaway with a decidedly retro feel. Think green, flocked wallpaper, relaxed wooden deck chairs facing the curb and adorable vintage signage; the perfect spot for whiling away an hour or two on a weekend morning.
The small café, with its 20 seats and 1930s feel, is a breakfast only affair serving up a little bit more than your standard bacon and eggs. Treats like grilled sardines with scallop chats or sweet potato rosti with herb spinach and poached eggs adorn the menu. For the man in your life, the one pot breakfast is hearty and warming - I mean it just isn't breakfast without a side of sausages, mushrooms and spinach. Don’t miss a perusal of the counter top where you are sure to find a selection of handmade goodies including bread and butter pudding, croissants and muffins galore!
From the impeccable service, courtesy of the cheery waiters in adorable blue and white aprons, to the perfectly brewed Genovese coffee, Bungalow 4171 is definitely our new Hawthorne favourite.
Hot tip - Enjoy a hot chocolate on the wooden deck chairs facing the street and watch the comings and goings, complete with a wooly rug to keep your knees warm!
