The quaint notion of the local corner store has been on the slow demise for quite some time now. These neighborhood haunts were once our first port of call for that early morning loaf of bread, carton of milk or paper bag full of miscellaneous lollies.
Three brothers, well adept in the art of coffee (they have 5 cafes already to their name), are bringing back the humble local store. The newly opened Bread and Butter in Bulimba is a whole new breed of the classic corner shop. The Oxford Street store has been expertly filled with a collection of painstakingly researched gourmet finds, resulting in shelves upon shelves filled with some very unique and hard-to-come-by products. With an eclectic mix of modern necessities ranging from the Le Sebastian Breads (try the pumpkin and black pepper loaf), delectable Sonoma muesli and locally sourced diary products, we’re sure the new-age take on the general store will become a favourite haunt for southsiders.
Our hot tip? Be sure to bring along your own glass bottles, which can be sterilised and filled on site from the huge silver vats of olive oil, balsamic vinegar or honey.
